Yeah, I bought this Sony Ericsson P990i @ $198 with a 2 years contract with the telco company. It was cheap cheap ....I like about the big screen with wifi enable..... the camera 2megapix with flash hmmmm enough le....

However, due to the ram limitation the set itself is lag ----slooooowwwww.......... do not come with chinese languages .... I had contacted sony ericsson , i was WARNED about the application .... the following is the email i recieved for them ..

"Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.

With regards to your inquiry,The phone in its original package does not come with the Chinese language.

To obtain the language, you would need to proceed to any of our service centres for them to flash it in for you.

However i would need to warn you of certain limitations that will come with the chinese software.

Firstly, a back-up under the english software will not be able to be restored into the phone under the chinese software. Synchronisation will not be affected though. So you might want to consider doing a synchronisation instead of back-up.

Secondly, your phone will function slower as the chinese software takes up more RAM than the english software.

Thirdly, handwriting recognition of english letter might not be as sensitive and will take slightly longer to be registered.

Last, the service centres after flashing the chinese software in for you will not entertain requests to flash it back to the original english version.

All these information are for the chinese read-and-write software.
If you feel that you need to read chinese characters and not write, the service centres have the read-only chinese third party software, which does not come with these limitations.

I would advise that you take the limitations into consideration first before making a choice. Please remember to synchronise all your data first if you decide on flashing the chinese support software."


With all the limitation and warning I did not take up the risk .... I only download the read mode application .

But,one thing I do not understand is why once I download the chinese application i cannot revert back to the English one ... Think ?????
